Lewis Hine and Child Labor Reform


This exhibit examines photographer Lewis Hine's effort to document working conditions for children in Indiana during the early part of this century. Hine photographed in Indiana in August 1908 for the National Child Labor Committee, which worked to regulate the role of children in the workplace. The exhibit's photographs are drawn from the Library of Congress and are supplemented by materials from the IHS, Indiana State Library, and Indiana State Archives.
