The Papers of William Henry Harrison, 1800-1815

"The Harrison Papers provide valuable primary materials for any investigation of the history of the Old Northwest. Scholars interested in land policy, the formation of territorial and state governments, and the development of political parties during this period will welcome the publication of these documents. The papers are particularly rich in their references to Indian Affairs and provide critical insights into the failure of federal attempts to integrate Native Americans into American society. The papers also contain invaluable documents focusing upon the emergence and careers of the Shawnee Prophet and Tecumseh."

Professor R. David Edmunds, Indiana University

"Enthusiastic congratualtions to Douglas Clanin and his staff of accomplished researchers and editors and to the Indiana Historical Society . . . who managed and financed this major task. Careful and meticulous transcription and proofreading have provided authoritative texts and highly useful explanatory footnotes and perceptive evaluations."

Professor Emeritus Robert Gunderson

"The painstaking care that you have taken to provide the reader with authentic, reliable texts . . . is most impressive . . . your texts supersede all preceding texts."

Dr. Gaspare J. Saladino

The first three microfilm reels of a projected eight-reel set of transcripts of The Papers of William Henry Harrison, 1800-1815, are available for sale from the IHS. The first three reels of the Harrison microfilm edition cover the period from Dec. 2, 1799, to May 1, 1810. When finally completed, this edition, under the principal editorship of IHS editor Douglas E. Clanin, will supersede the two-volume set edited by Logan Esarey and published by the Indiana Historical Commission in 1922. Over the course of more than a decade, approximately 3,600 Harrison documents were collected and transcribed for the new edition -- five times the number of documents in the old edition.

The first installment of the Harrison microfilm, which includes a printed guide, is available from the Society for $60, plus $2.75 for postage and handling. Also, the guide may be purchased separately for $5 and the individual reels are priced at $25 each. Postage and handling charges for these individual items are $2.75 for the first and $1 for each additional purchase.
